Know the pest

Small, pale and very good at climbing.

The Arizona bark scorpion is light tan, usually two to three inches long, and the scorpion behind most sightings in Valley homes. Unlike many scorpions it climbs well, so it turns up on walls, ceilings and the undersides of patio furniture.

It spends the day tucked into tight, shaded spaces and comes out after dark to hunt crickets, roaches and other insects. Warm nights mean more activity, which is why summer evenings bring the most sightings.

A body that flat can squeeze through a gap about as thin as a credit card. Worn door sweeps, gaps around plumbing and weep holes in block walls are common ways in.

Where bark scorpions shelter

  • Block walls & stuccoCracks, weep holes and the gap under wall caps.
  • Doors & garage sealsWorn sweeps and weatherstripping let them walk in.
  • Irrigation & waterValve boxes, drip lines and pool equipment stay cool and damp.
  • Clutter & woodpilesStacked wood, stored boxes and rock edging give daytime cover.

How scorpion control works

Four parts of a plan that holds up.

One spray rarely solves a scorpion problem. Lasting results usually come from working on several fronts at once.

Which of these your home needs depends on what the free inspection turns up. Ask which parts we take care of and which are easy fixes you can make yourself.

  1. Cut the food supply

Scorpions follow their prey. Fewer crickets, roaches and other insects around the property gives them less reason to stay.

  2. Treat where they shelter

Block walls, landscape edging, woodpiles and the base of the house are the usual daytime hiding places.

  3. Close the way in

Sealing, also called exclusion, means door sweeps, weatherstripping and caulked gaps around pipes and vents, so fewer reach living spaces.

  4. Look after dark

Scorpions glow under ultraviolet light, which is why blacklight checks at night are a common way to find where they gather.

How service works

What service looks like.

The same three steps whether you have seen one scorpion or a dozen.

  1. Walk-through

A technician checks the house and yard for activity, hiding spots and the gaps pests use, then tells you what turned up.

  2. Targeted treatment

Treatment goes where pests live and travel around your property, based on what the walk-through actually found.

  3. Re-check

Seeing treated pests again? Call the office. Re-treatment is covered by our money-back guarantee.

Between visits

Simple habits that help.

Treatment does the heavy lifting. These small changes around the house make it harder for scorpions to settle in.

  1. Shake things out

Check shoes, gloves and towels left outside or in the garage before you use them.

  2. Pull beds off the wall

Leave a few inches between beds or cribs and the wall, and keep bedding off the floor.

  3. Clear the perimeter

Move woodpiles, stored boxes and rock piles away from exterior walls.

  4. Fix drips and lights

Repair leaky irrigation, and use yellow porch bulbs that draw fewer of the insects scorpions hunt.

FAQ

Scorpion questions.

Have a question we didn’t cover here? Give our Phoenix office a call.

Can you get rid of scorpions completely?

In the desert, nobody can honestly promise zero scorpions forever. A good plan cuts their numbers around your home and makes it much harder for them to get inside. If treated scorpions come back, we return to re-treat.

When are scorpions most active?

They hunt at night and are busiest in the warm months, roughly late spring through early fall. In winter they slow down and stay hidden rather than disappearing.

Is treatment safe around kids and pets?

Ask at your inspection. We’ll explain what we use, where it goes and anything you should do before and after a visit.

What should I do if someone is stung?

Most stings cause sharp pain and tingling. Young children, older adults and anyone with a strong reaction should get medical advice: call your doctor or Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222, or 911 in an emergency.

How often does scorpion service happen?

It depends on how much activity the inspection finds. We’ll recommend a schedule and explain why.
